Home remedies for tooth infection

 




On this article we are going to look at some of the natural remedies for tooth infection that you can use to control the pain and also stop the infection from getting worse or spreading while you wait for the infection to die off. These particular remedies may not work for every person but if you’re in pain from an infected tooth, these remedies can bring you some relief.

 

1.    Rinsing your mouth with saltwater: If you want to lessen the pains from tooth infection or you want to stop the spread of the infection you can rinse your mouth with a warm saltwater solution. This will help to kill off some of the bacteria in your mouth and irrigate your mouth. It will also help to rinse some of the debris out of your mouth and if you have an abscess it can help break up the pus surrounding the tooth in your mouth. To make a basic saltwater rinse you can use regular table salt and warm tap water. All you need to do is to add about ½ a teaspoon of salt to a small cup of warm water and then stir it well. Make sure you rinse your mouth with it for a couple of minutes swishing the solution thoroughly around your mouth and then spit it out.

2.    Using baking soda: Baking soda has antibacterial properties. If you can use a solution of baking soda and warm water to rinse your mouth it will help reduce the amount of plaque in your mouth and also help relieve pain.

3.    Using essential oils: For centuries essential oils have been used for their medicinal properties. These essential oils are actually made from plants that are distilled with water or steam or cold pressed to extract the oil from the plant leaves and stems. If you want to use essential oils to alleviate pain and to promote healing make sure you always keep the essential oils in a cool place away from things like spices or food. You can put a couple of drops of the essential oil on a cotton ball or cotton swab and then use it to apply the oil to your tooth. If you want to use essential oils make sure that you are using the pure medicinal grade essential oils.

4.    Using herbal teas: Another time-tested home remedy for many different ailments is herbal teas. You can easily make your own herbal teas at home by buying the leaves and stems of different herbs and then put them in hot water to make the tea. To make it more effective you can buy medicinal grade teas that are already made. The high quality therapeutic grade teas actually contain a higher quality of herb and a stronger concentration and they are likely more effective. If the teeth in your mouth are sensitive to heat because of the infection you can brew the tea, let it steep for up to fifteen minutes depending on  how string you want it to be, and then let it cool in a room temperature before you drink the tea. Fenugreek is one of the popular teas that can help alleviate the symptoms of tooth infection. Another tea for tooth infection is Goldenseal tea. Actually Goldenseal is an herb that is related to Turmeric and it also has many of the same anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting properties that Turmeric has. A study has shown that it has natural antibacterial and antibiotic properties for a tooth infection. You can drink up to 3 cups a day to help knock out the tooth infection.

5.    Using hydrogen peroxide: Without been told hydrogen peroxide is something almost everybody has in their medicine kit or first aid cabinet. Hydrogen peroxide has many household and first aid uses, although hydrogen peroxide is best known for preventing infections in cuts and for being an effective mouthwash. Hydrogen peroxide is one of the best remedies for an infected tooth. If you want to make a hydrogen peroxide mouth rinse you can use a 1:1 ratio or you can mix equal parts of the peroxide and warm water then rinse your mouth with it.

6.    Eating garlic: One of the home remedy for tooth infection that is easy to find and inexpensive to buy is garlic. Although a lot of people don’t actually like the smell of garlic but the healing effects of garlic might make the smell worth it. Fresh raw garlic has a compound called Allicin that has significant pain relief and antibacterial properties that can reduce or even eliminate the infection in a tooth. If you have tooth infection you can peel a clove of garlic and then gently bit down on it with your infected tooth. Make sure you leave the piece of garlic against your tooth for a few minutes for it to be more effective.

7.    Using Aloe Vera gel: Aloe Vera gel has been used for years to treat burns and cuts or skin irritations because it really has natural antibacterial properties. Aloe Vera gel is also used to stop the pain of an infected tooth. The use of Aloe Vera gel can also help to heal abscesses in the gums. If you want to purchase Aloe Vera gel to use for your mouth make sure that you purchase the food-grade Aloe Vera so that it will be safe to ingest. You can keep the bottle in the refrigerator for extra pain relief. If you can apply a cold Aloe Vera gel to your painful infected tooth or infected gums it will give you an instant pain relief.
